Welcome to the Academy of Kung Fu & Tai Chi's home on the Internet!

Kung Fu is a Chinese martial arts system that developed over many centuries.  Our style, Tien Shan Pai, originated in the mountains of northwestern China, Xinjiang Province.  Legend has it that it was practiced by monks who lived in a temple in the mountains.  The style contains both graceful empty-hand and weapons forms, and is well known for self-defense applications.

In Chinese, “Kung Fu” can also be used to refer to any individual accomplishment or skill cultivated through long effort and hard work.  It wasn’t until more recent times that it was used to describe the martial form (Kuoshu Wushu is a more precise term for the martial art).  The training regimen is designed to push and expand the limits of common traditional family principals such as respect, discipline, patience, understanding, perseverance, making wise choices, and the ability to withstand physical and mental hardship.  The ultimate goal of physical training is to develop one’s internal strength, attitude, and character as these determine the outcome of any conflict.
